Carla’s Dilemma

Carla as of recently was in need of a new manual wheelchair. She has been using the same manual wheelchair since she was 13 years old. “That is absurd!” we said.

The absence of resources prevented Carla from getting a new manual wheelchair. As someone who relies heavily on their wheelchair, this can be a very difficult and at times life halting situation. Thankfully, we were able to find a solution…

UCP

United Cerebral Palsy is a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities afford equipment to help them in their everyday lives.

Shannon, a representative of UCP in Eastern CT,  reached out to us (Mobility Equipment Recyclers) and informed us about Carla’s dilemma.

Our Solution

At Mobility Equipment Recyclers we knew exactly how to help.

Carla came into the store, where we took measurements and recorded special requests in order for us to custom build her a perfect manual wheelchair. Carla needed a contoured backrest, a re-positioned knee abductor, shortened footrest, and a specific sized seat.

The modifications necessary were able to be done due to the fact we recycle in combination with our highly skilled technicians.

How are we able to customize?

Recycling power wheelchairs, electric scooters, commodes, hospital beds, patient lifts, ramps, and more allows us to pull parts and pieces from different devices.

Recycling opens up the opportunity to customize mobility and medical equipment to accurately fulfill our customer’s needs while keeping our prices affordable. This is possible due to the fact that we have an extensive inventory of not only whole equipment that parts can be removed from, but also inventory that we currently have located at our 7,000 SQ ft location at 6802 Post rd in North Kingstown Rhode Island.

Our highly skilled staff is also capable of doing what most other mobility service locations are not able to do. We can cut, weld and modify most any equipment to fit individuals and their specific requirements.

Carla’s Reaction

Carla was kind enough to answer a couple of questions before she went home with her new chair.

Andrew (our general manager): “What is the new chair going to give you that the old one didn’t?”

Carla: “The right posture, which I am really happy about because I don’t always hold myself accountable. It is easy for me to cheat so I am happy that I have something to hold me accountable.”

Andrew: “Would you like to say anything to Shannon from UCP and John?

Carla: “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much, I know it has been a process, everything in life is a process so thank you for getting me through this and thank you for helping me.”
